Albus steeled himself outside his own front door. He resisted the urge to check out his reflection on the way home. He looked fine, he knew. He’d only dallied a couple of days after his night out with James to do this. He could hardly have done it hung over after all. His hand brushed the box in his pocket. Just a nice necklace, nothing extravagant.
Flowers, he thought I should have flowers. But that would be too obvious. He took a deep breath and opened the door.
“Hi Roxy!”
“If you’re going to ask me out I will scream!”
Roxy was half a head shorter than Albus, but he quailed in front of her wrath; all narrowed eyes and wild hair. Yet his heart still beat at double-time for another reason entirely.
“I’m not joking. Scorpius actually asked me out!” Roxy said. “You’d think he only wanted to live with us to do it.”
Ask her anyway. Al thought. You can pass it off as a joke.
“And then he acted like he was joking!” Roxy continued. “The Prat.”
Al could just hear a song through the wall.
“Tis the season to be jolly...”
He’d never felt more depressed.
