I just got back from it. I don’t know if it’s just not seeing a film in cinema since the pandemic or what but it really blew me socks off.
So the film was a victim of it’s own stinger’s sucess for me. Because it was a great film but I just want to say as big fan of MCU Hawkeye the implication of Valentina sening Yelena after Clint... holy shit am I looking forward to that playing out in the Hawkeye series or Black Widow 2 or whenever.
Now the film itself was great as well I thought. There are certainly bits that could have done with expanding though, like how she got away from Ross at the end.
And all the new characters were great but made it less... Nat’s film so to speak?
I thought it was a little odd that Black Widow got her ass kicked quite so often in her own movie. I mean it felt realistic that she lost or stalemated the fights. Taskmaster not knowing their abilities, Yelena's her equal as a Black Widow and then vs 20 odd Widows of course she's not going to win. But it's her solo movie... and I thought they could have done more with the final fight with Taskmaster.
But it’s interesting they made all the Widows equal and avoided having Nat be super-special.
It was fun seeing Taskmaster and trying to figure who's movies they were copying. I caught Black Widow's own moves. Cap's, Hawkeye's, Black Panther's and I think Winter Soldier's knifeplay?
I’ve never read Taskmaster in the comics so the origin change and gender flip didn’t both me but I guess if you were a Taskmaster fan it’s akin to IM3′s thing with Mandarin which is an interesting choice.
Anyway, super happy to have gone out and seen on the big screen!
